It's an independent project with its ongoing development made possible entirely thanks to the support by these awesome backers. The project is open source and its source code is hosted on this repository in Github, which means that pull requests are welcome. The mobile version (iOS and Android) uses React Native. To make it accesible as a desktop application, it uses the Electron Framework under the hood. The core of the application itself is written in JavaScript, HTML and CSS using the React Framework. You can download the application for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. When you update notes on your laptop, they are also reflected on your mobile devices. For code snippets the app is able to highlight code syntax in more than 100 languages, including Javascript, Python, HTML and CSS and you can store multiple code snippets within the same snippet:Įasy to write notes from anywhere, even if you're offline. Your markdown notes are saved automatically as you write and various formatting options have semi-live previews so you can double check what you’re writing. What is Boostnote?īoostnote is a "developer oriented note taking application" so to speak. This by itself is not a problem if you are achieving what you need with help of your notes, but what if I told you that there's a better way to store Programmers Reminders, notes and any kind of things with a single tool? We are talking about Boostnote. Amazed: A simple but addictive accelerometer-based. Other utilities in Windows for example, were the Sticky notes on Windows 7, however they were removed on Upcoming versions. A collection of useful, open source applications that demonstrate basic features of the Android platform. This in general is great, however when it comes with private notes, I mean things that you want to keep in mind but they're just for you, most of us decide to store that in simple text files using any kind of editor like notepad.exe. Google publishes most of the code under the Apache License version 2. For example, every sane company or development group has some tickets system to assign tasks about projects etc. The source code for Android is available under free and open source software licenses. When we talk about order for example of how our PC Desktop Looks like, then we are very meticulous. Case in point: if you set up a NextCloud instance and install the free Notes extension, you get a self-hosted clone of Google Keep that you can access from the web. Most of the programmers are disorganized, at least in the real life. It's a server application that lets you set up your own cloud storage, and with the help of some plugins, you can essentially have your own suite of Google service alternatives. We discussed NextCloud in a previous open-source app roundup. These apps are often created by individuals or small groups in their spare time, as opposed to large companies with income generated from advertising or venture capital. ![]() Many people simply prefer open-source apps out of principle, in the same way that some people prefer shopping at locally-owned stores instead of Walmart or Target. If a developer is doing something they're not supposed to be, like spying on users or bundling malware, they probably wouldn't announce it to the world. I say 'almost,' because there's technically nothing stopping open-source apps from spying on you, but that behavior is extremely rare. Proprietary apps can sometimes feel like black boxes, where you don't really know what's going on behind the scenes. All the code is out in the open, so anyone with programming knowledge can go through it and see exactly what an app is doing. ![]() ![]() Free and open-source software (FOSS) has a number of advantages, but to most people, the main benefit is privacy. ![]()
